The house demonstrates accessible house modifications and related accessible furniture, fixtures, appliances, equipment and technology. The Midstate Independent Living Consultants organization operates the house. They are knowlegable about all the house features and they can provide information about possible funding sources to interested visitors.

The basic accessible house modifications correspond to Universal Design specifications. These include:

• Thirty six (36) inch wide doors
• Forty eight (48) inch wide hallways
• Hard flooring (wood, ceramic, vinyl) and low nap carpet with level transitions from one type to another
• Lever door and faucet handles
• Loop or bracket type hardware on all cabinets and drawers
• Casement windows (crank to open) with lever type locks and large crank handles for better leverage
• Electrical outlets raised fifteen (15) inches from the floor
• Large rocker style light switches placed forty eight (48) inches from the floor
• Hand held shower with temperature control
• Well lit rooms
• Large, spacious rooms for wheelchair turning radius
• Low threshold entrances with level approaches
